To clean your jewelry, use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Gently wipe to remove oils or dust. Avoid using harsh cleaning agents or ultrasonic cleaners unless specified as safe for the material.

04. Handle with Intention

Delicate chains, clasps, and settings require gentle handling. Put on your jewelry after dressing to prevent snags or breakage. Take care when stacking or layering pieces.

05. Know Your Materials

Every Velora piece begins with the same foundation: solid 925 sterling silver. What changes is the finish, either a bright rhodium plating for silver-toned pieces or a genuine gold vermeil in 18k or 22k. No base metals, no alloy substitutions, no plated brass sold as silver.

The Base: 925 Sterling Silver

Every piece is crafted from 925 Italian sterling silver: 92.5% pure silver, with the remaining 7.5% primarily copper. Pure silver alone is too soft to hold a clasp, a prong, or a fine chain. The 92.5% standard is what jewellers worldwide use to make silver strong enough to wear daily. Each piece carries the 925 stamp certifying its purity.

This matters more than it sounds. Plated jewelry is often built over brass or steel, and once the finish wears, there is nothing valuable underneath. With Velora, the silver is the piece. The plating is a finish, not a disguise.

Rhodium Plating at 2.5 Microns

Our silver-toned pieces are finished in rhodium, a rare precious metal from the platinum family, applied at a thickness of 2.5 microns. Rhodium is harder than silver, brilliantly white, and does not tarnish. It protects the silver beneath from the air and moisture that would otherwise dull it, while giving the surface a bright, mirror-like finish that plain silver cannot hold on its own. For reference, most commercial rhodium plating runs between 0.5 and 1 micron. At 2.5, the finish is built to survive years of daily wear rather than months.

Gold Vermeil in 18k and 22k, at 2.5 Microns

Our gold pieces are vermeil: real gold layered over solid 925 sterling silver at 2.5 microns. This is not gold plating over cheap metal. The core is sterling silver, and the gold is genuine. The 2.5-micron thickness is the international benchmark for true vermeil. Thin "gold flash" plating is often a tenth of that, which is why it wears through in weeks.

• 18k: a rich, classic warmth, and our most popular finish
• 22k: a deep, traditional Indian gold tone, closest to pure gold in colour

The higher karat means more gold and a warmer, deeper colour, but also a softer surface. A 22k finish is the more luxurious to look at and the more deserving of gentle handling.

Nickel-Free & Skin-Safe

Our alloy contains no nickel, the most common cause of metal sensitivity. Velora pieces are safe for most people with sensitive skin. If you have a severe metal allergy, contact us before ordering and we will share the exact composition for your piece.

Caring for a Plated Finish

Rhodium and gold vermeil are surface finishes, and they wear with time and friction. Never use a silver polishing cloth, a dip cleaner, or an abrasive on a plated piece. It will strip the finish rather than clean it. Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth, keep pieces away from perfume and chlorine, and store them separately. Handled this way, a good finish lasts years.
